Send Pavilion
Send Parish Council appointed Cave in early 2023 to work with the community and the Council on the extension and refurbishment of a new sustainable community sports Pavilion for Send Recreation Ground.
Engagement, Co-Design & Retrofit
The focus for this project is the redevelopment & retrofitting of the existing sports pavilion. Improving facilities on the Recreation Ground to expand its appeal and create a multi-purpose space that can accommodate a variety of community uses.
The pavilion is managed by Send Parish Council and is used by volunteer groups from within the local community. Currently, there are limited facilities for visitors and volunteers with a small kiosk to serve occasional drinks. The pavilion building further provides a changing room, showers and toilets, suitable for sports use and a separate accessible toilet facility, which is accessed from the recreation ground for public use. There is urgent need to provide additional space to the existing changing room and a refurbishment to the existing pavilion building that will provide a range of new services for both existing and new visitors. The entire Recreation Ground site will be re-landscaped, and re-imagined to increase it's appeal to the wider community, making it fully accessible and inclusive, as well as improving biodiversity, habitat and amenity.
Part of any sustainable design is social sustainability. It is important to create opportunities for all stakeholders to have conversations with each other and be heard within any decision making process.
A 3 staged engagement approach was used and a variety of interactive and co-design techniques (spanning from site walkabouts, to school workshops and pop up engagement events) were carried out. With these exercises we were able to enable more people to share their local knowledge and expertise, discuss any ideas or concerns and were able to identify any local assets that may be of interest.
All the engagement so far, has clearly shown the communities approval for the existing pavilion to be refurbished or replaced.
Over the following months Cave, Send Parish Council and the community will be developing sketch design options for the project. More news to follow…
